Indiana Jones and the Medina of Fes

Just kidding. But seriously, some station on the satellite is playing an Indy marathon this week. We're on day 2. Just wanted to make a few notes:

- You'd think, after all these years, that Indy might've found a slightly less high-maintenance, slightly more adventurous female companion.

- All Indiana Jones movies must contain at least one scene featuring parallel moving vehicles, going at high speed, in which the passengers switch places during a skirmish between the two. Last Crusade has at least two such scenes. Also on this note, I'm not sure there's a character in the history of film better at running his adversaries off the road in a variety of vehicles.

- When Indy beats someone up and takes their costume/uniform, that person will not die, but they will not wake up for some time. They will never be heard from again, however.

All for now. Fes is good. Missing home a lot but it's going well over here.

  1. I appreciate that there was no reference made to the most recent Indy installment, since it was utter crap. However, it should be said that all three of your observations apply to the Crystal Skull as well.

    In response to your observations:

    1) I hear what you are saying, but you have to at least give some credit to Karen Allen's character. Think about the first time you meet her in Raiders of the Lost Ark, going shot for shot with some local in the Himalayas. I always thought this was one of the best scenes in the movie. I have fewer good things to say about Kate Capshaw of the Temple of Doom, and off the top of my head I don't remember who the woman was in Last Crusade.

    2) I love the chase scenes in these movies. Truly, the car chase in Raiders has few competitors (perhaps DeNiro in Ronin). In fact, it goes beyond the movies. I remember watching a few "Young Indiana Jones" episodes which involved chase scenes on trains and the like.

    3) This phenomenon is one that is very familiar to the seasoned first person shooter video gamer. It is unexplainable, but also completely necessary to the flow of any good action film.

There is nothing quite like a good movie marathon. I remember the first time I met Mahri I had just come off of a two day Star Wars binge, as it had been playing on TNT non-stop all weekend... and she still decided to date me.
